In the past, Internet services provided information. They were valuable. Today, Internet service means something different for everyone. For many, it embodies a specialist who comes to our house, uses a completely incomprehensible parlance and demands money for his service. What for? For something you don’t actually need, but you were made to believe that you have to have it. It's time to restore the value of Internet services. It's time to restore the meaning of the term "Internet service".
As the Internet developed, the term has taken up many meanings. Initially it was very intuitive. And nobody could infer its actual meaning. Many people didn’t have any experience with the Internet, but had already heard something about Internet services.
“It used to be something. To put it simply. Something valuable. Today it is a product for display. It is sometimes well packed and presented in a way to attract a potential buyer. But it is not necessarily what it was 20 years ago” says Tomek Dobrowolski, the head of the INFORMATION DESIRED Technology Department.
“As technology was evolving, various trends appeared and, depending on the current trend, people found different definitions for ‘Internet service’” adds Tomek Dobrowolski.
He talks about it with nostalgia. You might think that it is archaic, after all everything changes and longing for Internet services that prevailed 20 years ago is insane. Not necessary. The point is that it is a kind of nostalgia for a value and content of the service, for a valuable piece of information.
“At that time, companies simply wanted to tell their story using Internet services. Sometimes these services were being updated, sometimes not, but everyone who visited a given website could learn something valuable” explains Tomek Dobrowolski.
This approach is akin to what INFORMATION DESIRED believes in.
Today, however, Internet service is affected by the activities of people from various sectors and has become a convenient product that can be presented as a package of various kinds of incomprehensible and unnecessary services. It's all about making them "sellable" to make profit. There is nothing more to it.
And that can be a source of some confusion. While INFORMATION DESIRED talks about Internet service, other people might have a completely different conception about it. They don’t think about useful information but focus on what they heard from a friend: that something is mobile, easy to use in their phones, well positioned etc. They often think that someone just wants to pull their leg and get their money.
How the term Internet service lost its significance? “Its devaluation is an ongoing process. It is a good example of manipulating people to make profit. New trends are generated, a market concentrates on the form, while the content is sidelined. This breakthrough happened in 2005. It was a time when a fad for attractive Internet services started, graphic design and flesh technology took the lead. Graphic and website designers started to outdo one another in the form creation. The form finally began to exceed the content. But in the years of 2014/2015, when everyone started to use the Internet in their mobile phones, these graphics became unwieldy so mobile technologies became a new trend. It is still about the form. Today, no one remembers that Internet service is after all a synonym for a valued and useful content” says Tomek Dobrowolski.
“The case of e-mail is similar. E-mails used to serve as a means of communication. Today, they are used for driving statistics, intimidation, hacking. E-mail databases are for sale and people are tricked to buy products they don’t need” adds Dobrowolski.
At INFORMATION DESIRED we want to restore the original meaning of Internet service. We don’t want to deceive people by saying that they need the newest technology and graphic images. We want Internet services to be a source of valuable, coveted information without unnecessary bragging about technological gadgets. Because businesses will not attract clients on the Internet with gadgets. Only valuable information about a given business and the quality of its services can win new clients ready to pay a fair price.
